Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Jiro Dreams of Sushi

Directed by David Gelb, 2011, USA, 1:21, Japanese with English Subtitles

Sushi exists somewhere between a lifelong passion and a lifelong obsession for 85-year-old sushi master Jiro Ono, the subject of this deliciously fascinating documentary. Despite the fact that his modest, 10-seat restaurant is located deep in the Tokyo subway system, it has been awarded three coveted Michelin stars; and Jiro Ono, declared a national treasure of Japan, is recognized as the world's greatest sushi chef. This film is a study of one man’s ceaseless quest for sushi perfection, a vision that also directs the destiny of his son, Yoshikazu. Jiro Dreams of Sushi follows both men’s stories, with plenty of mouth-watering footage of sushi being prepared and enjoyed. Don’t come hungry to this film.
