The Flute Player

Flute Player

Directed by Jocelyn Glatzer, 2003, USA, 0:52, English

Chief among the world's least understood and under-reported atrocities are the ‘killing fields’ of the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia in the post-Vietnam War era. ‘Enemies of the people’ - individuals deemed too dangerous or too educated by the regime - were targeted by the Khmer Rouge for mass execution. Tragically, those murdered included most of the country's traditional musicians. The Flute Player is a poetic account of one refugee's return to Cambodia, following a flute player named Arn Chorn Pond as he struggles to heal the scars of past wars and escape the demons and specters hanging over Cambodia.
