THE STORY OF THE WEEPING CAMEL director Byambasuren Davaa returns to the helm to further explore the bond between man and beast with this award-winning film. The film follows six-year old Nansal, a Mongolian girl who rescues a stray dog and the subsequent relationship that develops between the homeless canine and the girl's disapproving father. As the family struggles to maintain their nomadic life in outer Mongolia, fending off wolves and the lure of city life, Nansal forms a bond with Zochor, whom she found in a cave while collecting dung for the family fire. In the weeks that follow Nansal does her best to keep her four-legged friend, but when winter draws near and the family prepares to migrate Zochor is left behind. Despite the father's insistence that the beast will only bring problems for the family, he is soon compelled to reconsider his stance on the matter. Much of the film is unscripted, and the cast of actors is a family in real-life who use their real names onscreen.
