This documentary was written, directed and produced by UC Santa Cruz Professor of Anthropology Olga Najera-Ramirez. The film traces the development of Mexican folklórico dance, and features one of folklórico's most acclaimed choreographers, Rafael Zamarripa. A former member of the Ballet Folklórico de Mexico, Zamarripa is not only a master dancer and choreographer but also a sculptor and painter. He founded the Grupo Folklórico at the Universidad de Guadalajara and the Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Colima. The film documents the transitional development of folklórico and in addition promotes an appreciation for this dynamic form of cultural expression.
Grupo Folklorico Los Mejicas appears in the film and will perform as part of the screening.
